Attack vs Defense

Here you will learn about the differences in the battle mechanics between an attacking and defending team.

The attacking team starts the combat slightly earlier than the defending team. It allows them to make the first move and affects the timing of abilities and basic attacks.

On the other hand, titans and heroes gain energy when taking damage. The defending team takes the first hits, which allows them to gather energy faster. As a result, they may use their ultimate abilities first.

Therefore, attacking first can either benefit the attacking team or charge up defending characters faster.

Who makes the first move?

In the game modes where you can fight manually (e.g., Guild War, Campaign, Tower, Dungeon, etc.), the battle pauses for a short time when a hero or titan from the attacking team uses their ultimate ability. All of their allies and opponents are frozen until the skill animation ends.

In some scenarios, this may influence the interaction between heroes' or titans' abilities. For example:

1. Attacking Nova stuns defending Eden during the animation of Burden of Creation:

2. Defending Nova fails to interrupt Burden of Creation since the battle is paused during the use of attacking Eden's ultimate ability:

As a result, Nova’s projectile stuns Eden only when he has already thrown the rock.

Note
This mechanic only works in game modes where you can fight manually. Thus, this rule does not apply to Arena and Grand Arena, as battles there take place in automatic mode by default.
